I've had problems on the user profile on windows 7. This problem occurs on Notebook HP Probook 6460b with Windows 7 Professional 32 Operating system.

Here's the story, Notebook HP Probook 6460b already installed OS and applications. I am the administrator on the laptop. Laptops do join domian, to migrate user profile I am using Profwiz.

What happens on my Laptop? yeah, I get a temporary profile in Windows 7. This was the first time I experienced a problem like this. What is profwiz? below is a brief definition of Profwiz.

Profwiz is User Profile Wizard current user profile to new domain account so that can keep all your existing data and settings. You can get information about Profwiz on its official website : www.forensit.com.

Benefits of Profwiz is migrates all user profile data and settings and automatically joins a machine to a new domain. Unlike the add profiles of normal windows, when you join your machine to your new domain windows will create a new profile for you and you lose all your data and settings, your My Documents, My Pictures and My Music files and all the other information that makes your computer personal to you, like your desktop wallpaper, internet favorites and the lists of documents you've opened recently.

After I run profwiz, and login on a new profile, I get a temporary profile in Windows 7 Laptop. I tried to check in the folder C:\Users\TEMP, it means I fail to migrate user profile.

To fix the problem Temporary Profile in Windows 7 issue :
  1. Log in as administrator on Laptop
  2. Remove the corrupted user from Users in control panel
  3. Delete C:\Users\TEMP
  4. Start registry editor by typing regedit in find box in Windows 7
  5. Navigate the following location in Windows 7 : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\
  6. The same key can be seen below the list of profiles with different .bak
  7. Delete/Remove the new profile key which is having.bak
  8. Restart the Laptop, login as administrator again and did creat a new profile
  9. Restart the Laptop and login in the new profile
With the steps I can tackle the problem on the TEMP user profile on Windows 7.
